St. Paul's Relay for Life TeamRelay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and to raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks. Team members relaxing at base camp. Photo, Michelle Lawrence. Team members take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Today, more than three million Americans participate in Relay events nationwide. ![]() The Bells of St. Paul's banner at the team's base camp. Photo, Michelle Lawrence. St. Paul's has long been a strong supporter of the American Cancer Society. Our Relay for Life team, The Bells of St. Paul's, was formed in the spring of 2005 and includes more than forty members. In its first year participating in the event as a parish at the Wellsboro Area High School track, St. Paul's joined with thirty other area teams, and raised $2,040.25. ![]() Photo, Michelle Lawrence. As one team member said, "I walked in the Relay for Life to help raise funds towards research in finding cures for all kinds of cancer. I walked because a good portion of that money stays right here in our own community where it helps people that I know and love. I walked in honor of people who have had cancer and beat it. I walked in the Relay for Life in loving memory of many people including Bette Fuller, Al Seibert, Carrie Bauer, Harold Lawrence and Jackie West. I walked because in some small way, it gave me a way to help." ![]() Photo, Michelle Lawrence. Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated. ![]() Photo, Michelle Lawrence. By the end of 2005, Relay For Life events will be held in more than 20 countries around the world. Estimated page visitors since August 1, 2005. |
